As we creep into the new decade there’s something brewing up north. Hints of activity are popping up all across social media of artists in Bris Vegas working away in the studio. There’s talk of a mini-revival for the scene in a city which lead the Australian new wave in 2015-16 pioneered by booming 808 sounds and anthemic club hooks. One artist who fits that mould and has the potential to help lead a new generation for the Queensland capital is 17 year old Khi’leb.
Khi’leb had an impressive 2019. Dropping consistently, racking up some solid online streaming numbers and scoring a support for Baker Boy; he’s now started the new year with the same work ethic; releasing Twice, his boldest single yet, earlier this month and today we bring you the exclusive premiere of the music video.
With a distinct vocal tone which could draw comparisons with a similarly aged Joey Bada$$, the teenage spitter sits in an almost hypnotic pocket riding the Wy’es production. The visual is a clean street cut by local 4k director ShotbyJeda.
“‘Twice’ is about the things I used to do in the past that hindered me from bettering myself. I describe these things as an addiction…” Khi’leb explains.
He’s a fun, young talent with a lot of potential, and after a recent Adidas linkup seems to be attracting the right kind of attention to continue levelling up (screenshot this for when you see him on industry showcase lineups later this year) .
