YourBoyMars is an emerging light out of the 6K. A scene that while isolated, has been consistently pumping out good material via the likes of Sowdy, Figeuro Jones, Gamirez and more for several years as the new wave has developed. Mars is considered a bit of a prodigy in local circles, a passionate teenage Habesha who works across production, vocals and songwriting with a unique emotive resonance.

The latest single “Hmm” with Trilla Venus is no exception. Gentle melodic runs in a Bankroll Hayden like manner. With its nostalgic guitar sample, autotune waves, and crisp feature verse, the track would’ve sat comfortably trending in the glory days of Soundcloud. With the current lust for Aussies with melodies, expect it to pick up some deserved radio and press attention.

One of the OGs of the Aus Battle Rap scene, Cortext has been steady releasing and touring for the best part of a decade to a loyal underground fanbase. Latest crew cut ‘We Comin’ is a straight banger with a vicious first up verse from C before one of the best hooks of the last 12 months from Lil Mase.

ADRIAN DZVUKE

A name on the rise within the Afrobeat community across the AU, we first introduced you to Adrian Dzvuke via ‘Confidence’ some time ago, and he’s only gone to greater strengths since then. ‘Bad Like Ri Ri’ is the latest bop to heat up dancefloors and get stuck in your head.

JAMILLA

If you’re not familiar with beatmaker and songstress Jamilla; bet you’re about to be. Introspective lyricism, flawless flows and ambient production; all done on her own. With a consistent output, she’s on a trajectory similar to other independent R&B talents from the AU in recent years who have gone on to become global names. Check ‘Tired of the Sunrise’ as evidence to why.

MORNZ

An underground Soundcloud type talent with subtle autotune flavours over crisp 808s. Originally from Ghana, Mornz reps HVBOYS crew who are starting to do some numbers online and are def worth keeping your eyes on. ’40 Carats’ has some really catchy melodies to vibe with.

SOWDY

Sowdy is a dude we’ve been checkin for since like 2016 and it seems he’s finally starting to get the industry looks he deserves. Extremely versatile both across style and role; everything form trap type raps to boom-bap production, he’s a multi-talented artist who has all the tools for longevity. ‘Sunshine’ will put a smile on your face and make you go deeper into his catalogue.

YTL ZAY D

One of the more mysterious members of youth collective YTL who seem to be doing some of the dopest things out West across art and fashion. On‘All Alone’  the 18 year old raps on some really deep teen angst emo vibes before breaking into a poignant autotuned hook. Replay value.

In 2017, Unearthed High winner and New World Artists signee Arno Faraji got sent into the studio by Triple J to make a song with Remi and Sensible J. Almost a year later, we finally have those results .

“BLESS (What It’s Like)” sees Faraji flex more skills than you may originally realise. Not only does he lay down vocals, but also guitar and keys. Last year during the recording process, Sensible J even stated “…it’s inspiring to watch someone so young who’s got an ear on guitar, keys, vocals, drums. I can’t believe he’s only 17”

After an incredible 2017 of topping charts, winning Unearthed High, playing multiple festivals around AUS, supporting Mallrat and signing to New World Artists, it’s hard to fathom topping those achievements with ease in 2018… but that’s exactly what the high school prodigy, Arno Faraji did.

2018 started with Faraji placing in the top 200 of the Triple J Hottest #100 countdown, quite an achievement for his first ever entry. Faraji then played St Kilda Festival, announced he would be supporting Allday on his Australian tour, announced he would be playing Groovin’ The Moo, touring with Smino and MONTE BOOKER – we’re only up to May, btw – Faraji then announces tour with Rejjie Snow before dropping today’s Ca$h, “Bless” Ft Remi & Sensible J, next Faraji announces he will be playing Big Sound as well as supporting Tkay Maidza at the start of September, then capping off the month with Sound On Festival back home in Perth at the arena.

Perth’s T$OKO really stepped out of his comfort zone to provide us with this one, even stating on FaceBook that he drew inspiration from – “everything I have been exposed to, the Latino nights down @ Metros Freo (RIP DJ Suave) – to them Pendulum vibes from when I first got to Fremantle and found something I thought I would blend in and have some fun with.”

Your Ca$h today is titled “YOLA” and it was premiered via Home & Hosed on Triple J, a radio station rightfully unreserved in showing their support of the Perth artist, dubbing T$oko “one of the most skilled rappers you need to watch this year” and stating “T$oko can go punch for punch with just about any Australian MC, but he’s so much more than that: songwriter, tastemaker, vibe curator.” AUS outlets aren’t the only ones showing love though, with  T$oko’s new joint “Remember (The Times)” being exclusively premiered in the US on SHADE45 (!!!) just last week.

Figuero Jones and Sowdy of Perth collective Home Baked dropped the music video for “PROOF”, a track pulled from their collaborative album “K9inthe6k” on April 18. Directed by Jacob Brinkworth with cinematography by Cameron Green, the black & white visual features cameos from some familiar faces such as Robert Napoleon, Eriki Malé, Alwin Spencer Shane and Panashe Maz. An ice cold composition from all angles, effortlessly cool and tied together by Figuero Jones’ catchiest hook yet. There is nothing not to love about the path Figuero Jones and Sowdy are paving for themselves and the criminally underrated/appreciated Perth scene.
