R&Pop act IRFXXN (pronounced IR-FAAN) grapples with communication in relationships on new single ‘Time’.

Making up one-third of Sheph Division, the Eora/Sydney-based artist broke out in 2022 with ‘Latest Song’ following a storm of support for a teaser of the track on TikTok. Stamping his name in the scene with the R&B-infused dance debut, IRFXXN returns with his best release to date. And we have TikTok to thank again.

Posted last month and already clocked half a million views, the snippet is a tongue-in-cheek insight into how IRFXXN and producer team BeatswithSheph crafted ‘Time’ – combining the colour violet, ‘Hold On, We’re Going Home’, and the sound of a crying whale.

It’s an odd mix that inevitable works and lays the perfect foreground for IRFXXN to deliver quotables like: “You’ll never feel the way that I did until someone does the things that you did to me back to you.” For fans of Khalid, Majid Jordan and Brent Faiyaz, the introspective narrative finds him tapping into darker R&B tones to showcase his vulnerable songwriting and strong vocal control.

“It’s something almost every relationship can relate to, those times where you wish you could do more and everything seems to weigh you down.”

Exclusively premiering on AUD’$, the latest offering is accompanied with visuals directed by Skylake Media. In the music video, the song’s themes are explored further by following him buying groceries and cooking dinner for a date night that never arrives.

As the first taste of new music since ‘Splattered Paint’ in January, IRFXXN continues to snowball his imminent takeover with ‘Time’. This release, and the rest of his discography, is a testament to the loyal and engaged fanbase he’s nurtured in the last 12-months or so. IRFXXN has had an incredible start to his career so far, and one that many work years towards achieving. Crazy to think he’s still only warming up.

Get in early on Australia’s next hitmaker.
