VOLDY – JOY FT. AMAN
(Directed by Dylan Guy)
The Melbourne-based artist Voldy shares ‘Joy’ featuring Aman, the final single before the release of his debut EP Solplay Volume 1. On the atmospheric production by James Wajura, the two deliver fresh raps over the shimmering synths and strings. The short and hopeful track is a must listen for fans of Isaiah Rashad or Vince Staples, with the South-African born artist describing it “as a release of inner stress.” Accompanied with a music video directed by Dylan Guy, Solplay Vol. 1 will drop October 22 and feature previous releases ‘Goodthing’ and ‘Lost’.
SOLOCHULO & KOKODRIPP – 2X
Following his solo effort ‘AWFF ME’, Western Sydney’s Solochulo links with KokoDripp on ‘2X’. The new track marks KokoDripp’s first track since being released from prison, placing the duo over Tmob’s production as they switch back and forth between bars and auto-tuned melodies. The South Sudanese rapper also teases his debut collaborative project T.R.A.P.P.E.D (Together Rising Above Pain, Pure Energy Devoted) is coming soon, a highly-anticipated release after three years of singles. The ‘2X’ music video flash from B&W to coloured visuals with its quick edits becoming a signature staple of any work filmed by Navsrevenge.
MS. THANDI – WANT IT ALL
Ms. Thandi executes another richly-delivered R&B joint with ‘Want It All’. Following her silky smooth previous release ‘You Could Be’, the new single places the Sydney-based artist’s stunning vocals comfortably over keys by Nikos Haropoulos-Smallman and production by SOLLYY. The captivating music video is directed by Rob Milazzo and showcases dancers Jovilenn Hartley, Marcya Fugawai and pole dancer Basjia Almaan. There’s an undeniable R&B renaissance happening in Australia of which Ms. Thandi has been at the helm since her 2019 debut ‘On The Table’. With multiple singles under her belt, she’s commanded full attention that’ll hopefully culminate in a body of work very soon.
BOY $COUT GATSBY – ROLLS ROYCE FT. MASON DANE
(Directed by Bronson Moyle)
Wollongong-based rising star BOY $COUT GATSBY teams with Mason Dane on ‘Rolls Royce’, his second single of the year. Released via 100s + 1000s, the addictive pop-rap release is mixed and mastered by LA-based producer Neek with the beat by Malloy. Speaking on the track, Mase says “GATSBY and I have such a natural chemistry on and off the mic and to have it all packaged with this insane video just makes it that better.” Directed by Bronson Moyle, the music video features cameos from Australian online personalities like Anything4views, Misfit Minds and Fresh, who also starred in the ‘Wish You Well’ visuals.
HP BOYZ – WATCH THE WICK
Originally debuted as a trio, 2022 has ushered in an updated roster of HP Boyz made up of HP ONIT and HP YJ. The group’s third member HP Mwayz was absent from their previous release ‘HUNDRED CLUB’ and again, on their latest single ‘Watch The Wick’. Featuring a choir-sung sample for the hook and a longer than usual verse from each, the track is produced by Willstah, i.amsolo, Royce Millenium and Patrick. The cleanly-edited music video is directed by Kevin Bar from Moonboy Studios and includes appearances from Australian UFC fighters, Jimmy Crute and Featherweight Champ Alex Volkanoski.
M19 – BACK 2 BACK
(Directed by @nbreezy_1)
N19ghtmare Norm$, Sini$ter Cee and J. $avage unite as Melbourne trio M19 unite for their first single together ‘Back 2 Back’. Produced by Sini$ter Cee, all three emcees fire off tough bars over the eerie piano keys and upbeat UK-inspired drill instrumental. Shot and directed by 3K-based videographer @nbreezy_1, the music video plays into the mysterious allure with them all in balaclavas, oversized hoodies and even masks from Avatar The Last Airbender. Released late last September, ‘Back 2 Back’ and its creators have seemingly come out of the unknown and demanded to be heard.
