MALI JO$E – ENERGY FT. SOL CHYLD
(Al Dente)

Freshly landing in April’s Power Rankings, Mali Jo$e ensures the vibes stay right with ‘Energy’ featuring Sol Chyld. After an unmatched feature run since his Breezecatcher EP, the latest track marks the Boorloo/Perth artist’s first single of the year. Over self-production that leans heavily on the sung loop with a simple drum pattern to back it up, Mali delivers a verse with dope rhyming and a simple message, protect your energy. New Jersey artist Sol Chyld arrives in the second verse with a relentless flow and distinct voice that gives the track an added dimension. Bathing under sunlight in nature, the colours in the Al Dente visuals make the energy Mali raps about feel palpable.

CHANEL LOREN – ZONE
(Munasib Hamid)

London-born, Sydney-bound Chanel Loren reveals latest single ‘Zone’, her first solo effort since 2022. Produced by Ross James and Ric Rufio, the ‘Carelessly Doomed’ singer blesses us with her effortlessly sonorous style once more in an open letter to modern-day dating. The music video, directed by Munasib Hamid, illuminates the journey from crush to crushed and all the lust in between. The melody harmonises with Loren’s introspective musings on the complexities of pursuing love and navigating the dating scene, which often feels like an elusive challenge. Since her debut on ‘Playlist‘, Loren has been on an undefeated single run in recent years. Her upcoming debut project might be one of the most anticipated projects of 2024.

3% – LAND BACK FT. SAY TRUE GOD? & DENNI
(Gari Guru)

First Nations quartet, Nooky, Dallas Woods, Say True God? and DENNI, unite for hard-hitting mob anthem ‘Land Back’. Enlisting Tia Gostelow on their last record, ‘Sleezy Steezy Cool’, 3% return with rappers from each corner of the country. Sampling Pauline Hanson’s racist rambles in the intro, the hook demands “f*** that other shit, we just want our land back.” With well-placed references to Tupac, Cathy Freeman, and Clive Palmer, 3% carry the torch from Indigenous A.B. Original duo for their unapologetic and powerful social commentary. The music video, directed by Gari Guru, a talented PNG musician and videographer, boasts a badass visual of the four artists standing on a VT commodore and walking down the street draped proudly in the Indigenous flag. Surrounding the group are the next generation of First Nation leaders in matching red tracksuits, no doubt inspired by the earnest creative project they’re apart of.

PICKED LAST – ROOM 42 FT. AGUNG MANGO, BOY ACE, MANNY MÜLA, MAMMOTH. & CD
(Jordan Ruyi Blanch)

Naarm/Melbourne supergroup Picked Last collab with Champion for their new single ‘Room 42’. Featuring Agung Mango, Boy Ace, Manny Müla, MAMMOTH. & CD, each artist delivers a compelling verse, showcasing their unique style and chemistry. The Escape to Room 42 campaign recognises the link between puffer jackets and hip-hop culture, bringing onboard the underdog collective home to Melbourne’s finest. The music video is set in a private members’ club where old-world charm meets modern vibes, adding an exclusive allure to the song. With melodic vocals, tranquil beats, and alluring sounds, they beckon us into their intimate haven, ‘Room 42’.

BOLER MANI – BUGGY
(BraydenFunFilms, Fractrd)

Boler Mani aims down the scope in video game themed visuals for ‘Buggy’. Following ‘silence’, the comedic and catchy single comes from the young wordsmith’s upcoming EP Vacation. The spectacular music video, showing off the real extent of Fractrd’s graphic design skills, sees Boler load himself into Pac-Man, Call Of Duty, Mortal Kombat, and even Netflix. It’s Tron Legacy gone rap, with sonic elements reminiscent of Amine, early Brockhampton and maybe even some more streamlined bbno$ tracks. With great self production as always from the young gun Melbournian, Boler Mani really leaves no room for error with every aspect of this video delivering, perhaps making the most impressive work from all three of the creators involved in this project.

DOMENGO – SHEEPSKIN
(Arco)

Domengo shares his sixth instalment ‘Sheepskin’ as part of his ‘10 Videos in 10 Weeks’. The Sydney based artist has been making waves with his current project, leaning into the eerier aspects of his voice and presence on his latest one. Following ‘Hayfever Interlude’ and ‘YKYK’,  Domengo still graces the track with a wavy flow and his usual off-the-wall lyrics. Directed by Arco, the music video shows Domengo surrounded by darkness and appropriately wearing a sheepskin-looking jacket and hat. With four more tracks on the way, we’ll be bumping them all the way to the end.
