MAINA DOE – LET HER BE
Fresh from her sold-out VIVID show at the Sydney Opera House, Maina Doe shares her latest single ‘Let Her Be’. Boasting bass-heavy production by 18YOMAN, LEN20 and UNO Stereo, the Eora/Sydney-based multi-hyphenate delivers a confident performance of 2000s club R&B. Speaking on the track, she says, “I wrote this song imagining a young, free woman living in a world that is obsessed with humbling carefree black girls.” Following ‘Primal Design‘ and ‘WYA‘ alongside IJALE and King Ivy, ‘Let Her Be’ comes equipped with a kaleidoscopic visualiser directed by Adam Saunders, and signifies the first look at Maina Doe‘s forthcoming EP in late 2023.
YOURBOYMARS – BELIEVE IN ME
Hailing from the Westside, bringing the fresh and innovative sound of West Coast R&B, we have Yourboymars. The Boorloo/Perth based artist unveils his newest single, ‘Believe In Me,’ adding another gem to his already impressive catalogue. The official visualiser, skilfully directed, filmed, and edited by the talented Brendan Cecich, captures intimate close-ups of YBM, conveying the essence of trust and mutual support within a relationship. YBM’s velvety vocals emphasises the power of belief and how it can foster a strong bond between partners, motivating them to work together towards their aspirations. Having already achieved success with releases like ‘Mood Like’ featuring Blxss and ‘Go Down’ featuring Kedus, this latest new wave R&B single intensifies the anticipation for his upcoming Believe In Me tour this July.
JESS JADE – HOW2LUV FT. MICAH ACOSTA
(Hein Min Aung)
Jess Jade and Micah Acosta are a R&B duo we didn’t realise we needed until now. The melodic sensation from Eora/Sydney presents ‘How2luv’ featuring Micah Acosta, a captivating duet that enchants our senses. Not only do their voices match perfectly, but the accompanying music video directed by Hein Min Aung and Micah Acosta, is an extension of their harmonic chemistry. The song’s narrative explores the idea of former partners rekindling their relationship, however, this time, they approach it with newfound wisdom and growth, embracing the lessons learned from past mistakes and experiences, ultimately discovering the art of ‘How2luv’ as given by the single’s title. We hope to see future collaborations between Jade and Acosta as their synergy is utterly captivating.
GEORGE MYER & RIZ – LEAVE ME BEHIND
Naarm/Melbourne artist George Myer and Canadian act RIZ connect on the break-up ballad ‘Leave Me Behind’. Co-produced by IconicBeats, the two melody makers deliverAdam Saunders pensive verses and struggle to say goodbye over warm keys and guitar plucks. Shot and directed by Tyron Tran in Montreal, the accompanying music video showcases a snapshot of Myer’s travels from the past 12 months, and is emblematic of the far-from-home feeling of the track. Following ‘GOING INSANE’ earlier this year, this new release is the second taste of Myer’s upcoming project titled If You See This, Drive Safe.
DSP – 2 MANY MEN FT. SHELY210
Fresh off a JD Sports campaign, DSP continues his busy run with new track ‘2 MANY MEN’ featuring Shely210. Evident in the five singles released this year alone, including ‘CROSS YOUR MIND’ and his BL@CKBOX freestyles, the Sydney-based artist has been grinding. On his third collaboration of 2023, the pair of emcees fittingly embrace the grind on production by 29 Millions, Déjà Miru, Domba, and Soulis. Shot by Jack Billiau, DSP and Shely stand together in the track’s Joker-inspired visuals, foreseeing their future successes as two of Sydney’s favourites.
KING KHIS – NEW WAVE
King Khis reflects on his come-up and turns a new leaf on his third track of the year. Back from a two year hiatus, the Meanjin/Brisbane artist returns in 2023 with ‘Real Rockstar’, ‘So Down’ and his latest single ‘New Wave’. Embracing the good vibes that comes with this new wave, the music video shot by Elijah Clark finds Khis gliding through the water on a jet ski and just having fun. The uplifting trap anthem from the QLD artist is one of his strongest releases yet, and hopefully we hear a lot more from Khis going forward.
