AVANT GARBAGE ft. Phillabu$trr, Travy P, Ontrei

Rapidly accruing more than 50,000 members in a little over a year, Underground Society is Australia’s leading Facebook marketplace group and one we’ve been watching the rapid ascension of. Whether you’re after Rick Owens, NMD’s or Yeezy’s, Underground Society is the place to find incredibly rare custom footwear alongside high end designer clothing including Supreme, Palace, Gucci. Basically anything you can dream of and won’t find replicated anywhere else.

After a massive first meet-up event in Melbourne in late March, where lines extended around the block hours before doors even opened, Underground Society have announced their second event AVANT GARBAGE – featuring a crazy list of ca$h names including Phillabu$trr, Travy P and Ontrei at one of our fav spots Laundry Bar.

After kicking back and watching some AUD’$ Cyphers together, we had a chat with Adam Helal, the man behind AVANT GARBAGE, to find out what to expect, and to get some insight into the booming world of underground fashion in Australia:

Tell us all about AVANT GARBAGE, what’s the vision for the event and what can we expect?

AvantGarbage is the opposite of Avantgarde, It’s an event for those people who fall under a creative background or want to be falling under a creative background. AvantGarbage for me is an event that embraces Australia’s underground fashion culture, music culture along with the lifestyle. Expect the night to be crazy from the best of Melbourne DJs spinning some of the hottest tracks you wish they played at clubs

Some of our AUD’$ favourites are performing on the night, including Travy P who we believe you styled for a clip? How did you get Travy, Ontrei and Phillabu$trr on board and why them specifically?

I really think it’s important to showcase the underground talent we have here in Australia; for people to get behind our country and support one another so we can all grow together. Travy P & Philabu$tr are the homies (yes I did Style Travy P for his Sleepover Music Video!) , I hit them up and they were down straight away. I haven’t met Ontrei yet but have heard his stuff and trusted Phila’s word that I had to get him involved. These guys are all the perfect fit for the AvantGarbage culture.

We love that this night is a bit of a cultural hub for creatives to collab and network, who else can we expect down on the night?

Yeah we are really pushing for everyone from all creative backgrounds to come down and network and collaborate – that’s what I love about Underground Society! I only work with people I feel comfortable with and respect and U.S represents that – Laundry Bar has been very helpful too and has given us an opportunity to share our creativity. There will be some very cool people there. I don’t want to reveal too much haha. Come find out you will be surprised!

Finally, you’ve got your eyes and ears to the ground, so we want the inside word. What and who is up next? What’s styles are on the horizon and who are the ca$h names you see at the forefront of style in the AU?

That’s a very hard question to answer! We have so much talent down here in Aus that’s it’s overwhelming. Style now has really changed and it’s a good thing to see that people are getting more comfortable with expressing themselves freely through their fashion sense.

Aidan Nunan (@steeveweego) has been gaining a lot of attention through his unique high-end grungy streetwear look –  a lot of big names are being influenced by him and he’s setting trends worldwide. I see him as a fashion icon in the making. Philip O’Donahoo (@philipjvo.ai) is another on the rise, an individual who has an amazing art talent and will be previewing some of his work on the night.
