After a majorly successful, sell out week of shows for The BBEE9 Experience tour, it seems like a prime time to revel in the glory of Zambia-born, Sampa The Great and her tribute to all the Black Girl Magik out there. Marking her first music video ever (huge), Okayplayer premiered the Kwes Darko produced tune which features Nicole Gumbe on April 5, with Sampa declaring that she wrote the song for her younger sister Mwanje Tembo – “I often wondered what Mwanje saw when she looked back at herself in the mirror,” she explained. “We’re surrounded by beauty standards that we cannot fulfill as they’re not made with us in mind. In this video I wanted to depict something beautiful, strong, and royal—all that she embodies.” (quote via Kenyan Digest).
